What is Generation Wild

of the Pikes Peak Region?

Generation Wild of the Pikes Peak Region is a community-driven movement dedicated to reconnecting kids and families with the outdoors. As one of 12 Generation Wild communities across Colorado, we focus on creating equitable access to nature through free or low-cost programs, community partnerships, and inclusive outdoor spaces.

Together, we offer year-round opportunities that inspire curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love for nature. From nature-based camps and after-school programs to family-friendly events and teen internships, our collective efforts aim to ensure all children have access to meaningful outdoor experiences—no matter where they live or what barriers they face.

"We prioritize serving Southeast Colorado Springs and surrounding areas, including students from School District 11 and Harrison School District 2. Through strong partnerships with local community hubs like Hillside Community Center, Deerfield Hills Community Center, and Meadows Park Community Center, we ensure that every child, regardless of background, has access to the joy, growth, and benefits that come from time spent in nature. By cultivating curiosity, confidence, and stewardship, we're helping the next generation grow better - outside.

Powered by Partnership

We work alongside an incredible coalition of local organizations, schools, nonprofits, and community leaders who share our commitment to getting kids outside. From outdoor education and trail building to bike programs and community events, our partners help make nature more accessible, inclusive, and fun for families across the region.

Together, we’re creating a movement, one that connects kids to the outdoors, supports healthy communities, and ensures that every child has the opportunity to grow up wild.

A Statewide Initiative

Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) launched the Generation Wild movement with a bold and important mission: to reconnect kids and families with the outdoors. In response to this statewide call to action, Generation Wild of the Pikes Peak Region was formed, a coalition of local organizations, educators, and community leaders working together to make nature more accessible, inclusive, and central to daily life for youth in Southeast Colorado Springs and surrounding communities.

Our coalition believes that time spent outdoors isn’t just good for kids; it’s essential. Whether it’s a walk in a neighborhood park, an afternoon on a bike trail, or hands-on learning in a local garden, these everyday moments in nature help improve physical and mental health, build confidence, spark curiosity, and strengthen family bonds. By focusing on neighborhoods that have historically faced barriers to outdoor access, we are working to create equity in who gets to experience the benefits of the outdoors.

Through free and low-cost programs, community events, school partnerships, and youth-led experiences, Generation Wild of the Pikes Peak Region is helping kids build a lifelong relationship with the natural world—while celebrating the incredible beauty and outdoor opportunities found right here in the Pikes Peak region.
